A necklace, comprising sixteen oxidised red and blue glass beads interspersed with blue and white glazed composition disk beads, and seven turquoise glass elongated drop beads, 1¾ in. (4.5 cm.) long max.; another similar in blue glass, 1 3/8 in. (3.4 cm.)

Lot Essay

These are among the earliest examples of glass imitating the turquoise, lapis and cornelian beads of earlier periods, especially the Middle Kingdom, cf. C. Andrews, Ancient Egyptian Jewellery, British Museum Press, London, 1990, p. 24, pl. 15 for the necklace and gold pectoral of Sithathoriunet from Lahun in the Fayum.
