A PARTHIAN GOLD EARRING
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
With a hinged hoof-shaped hoop, a suspension loop below hung with a large openwork spherical pendant with two rows of cut-out semicircles with granulated borders, the middle of the sphere with horizontal frieze decorated with a zigzag pattern of hardstone inlays, hung with seven hollow pomegranate pendants terminating in seed-pearl beads, the whole surmounted by a biconical finial with two granulated S-shaped scrolling amphora 'handles' and a granulated waist
2½ in. (6.5 cm.) long max.
