Lot Essay

These dramatic vases and covers are based upon a design for cassolettes displayed in Louis XV's appartement at Versailles. While the present lot is unmarked, Alfred Beurdeley was known to have copied the model and exhibited an alabaster example in his stand at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle.
