Lot Essay

This playful group of music-making putti is reminiscent of works produced by the most prolific Italian studios of the late 19th century, particularly that of Ferdinando Vichi and his contemporaries. Related groups of standing putti were sold at Christie's, New York, 20 April 2006, lot 144 ($36,000), Christie's, New York, 26 October 2004, lot 352 ($65,725).
