Gilt-finished verge movement, chain fusée, balance cock centred by a painted polychrome enamel portrait depicting a lady holding a flaming heart, finely pierced and engraved scroll decorated balance cock foot, silver dial, Roman numerals, sunk centre with chased scroll decoration and two cherubs heads in high relief, one blued steel beetle hand for the hours, outer five minute divisions, plain circular case, movement signed and numbered, case numbered

Lot Essay

Daniel Quare, probably born in Somerset around 1647/48, was one of the most prominent watch and clock makers to George I and the inventor of the repeating watch. He established himself at St. Martin Le Grand in London and became a Brother in the Clockmakers' Company in 1671 and Master in 1708.
