TRANSYLVANIA, MID 17TH CENTURY
On spreading circular trumpet foot flat-chased with band of auricular scrolls on a matted ground, surmounted by a fluted band rising to a lobed stem with three fully-modeled stag's heads supporting the lobed and fluted cup, the cup chased and repoussé with arabesque panels enclosing fruit, flowers and putti heads on a matted ground, apparently unmarked

Lot Essay

A very similar lobed goblet is in the collection of the Museum of Applied Art, Budapest (Inv. no. 55.69.C). It bears the maker's mark of Stephanus Pip (alias Zimmerman), Brassó, 1652-1689 (see Baroque Splendor: The Art of the Hungarian Goldsmith, 1994, illus. no. 46, p. 119).
