The left hand coat-of-arms to this chimneypiece are that of Mac Gregor of Lanrick and Balquhidder, co. Perth. The right hand coat-of-arms is that of Murray quartering Strabogli, Stewart, Stanley, Lathom, the Isle of Man, Strange and Murray, for Sir Evan John Murray Mac Gregor 2nd Bt. (1785-1841) later Mac Gregor of Mac Gregor (changed by Royal License in 1822) and his wife Lady Elizabeth Murray (d. 1846), daughter of 4th Duke of Atholl, whom he married in 1808. Sir Evan was the 19th Chief of Clan Gregor and Governor of the Windward Islands. In 1830 he started work building Edinchip House, Lochearnhead which was to become the seat of succeeding Chiefs for the next 150 years. It is very likely that the current chimneypiece originally came from Edinchip House.
