Gerard Victor Alphons Röling was trained at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam from 1927-31. He is famous for his realitic still lifes which he painted with the oils he had produced himself after extensive experiments. The brightness of the colours as we see them today show proof of his great craftmanship. He became a professor at the Rijksacademie in 1939 and received many awards during his life.
