A PAIR OF ZITAN CABINETS WITH CANTON ENAMEL INSETS
18TH CENTURY
Each cabinet of rectangular form, the upper sections with a pair of doors mounted with small metal face plates and hinges, and inset with painted enamel panels, one side decorated with a couple at leisurely pursuits and other with a couple inspecting swords beneath a gnarled pine tree, opening to reveal an interior compartment with a detachable mid-shelf, the lower sections, sides and top of the cabinets with further inset painted enamel panels, finely enameled with branches of flowers, rockwork, birds, and insects including chrysanthemums, peonies, day lilies, butterflies, and cockerels with chicks, supported by square feet joined by aprons carved as archaistic kui dragons and a central lotus bloom
