Provenance
Presented to Captain (later Colonel) W.E. Pye, leader of the British section of the International Police, by the Abbot of a Buddhist temple in Tientsin in 1900, in gratitude for protecting the temple from being despoiled by French troops. Thence by descent to the present owner.
