A VERY RARE JEROBOAM OF YQUEM 1937

Château d'Yquem--Vintage 1937
Sauternes, 1er grand cru classé

Large clear glass bottle, height 42.5 cms, circumference of base 42,5 cms; good capsule; re-corked at the château in 1984; original label slightly bin-soiled and torn. The level of the wine is well into the neck and the colour is excellent.

The château has confirmed that only a small number of grands formats were bottled, as these large clear glass bottles were not only difficult to obtain but were available in very limited quantity.

It is not easy to estimate the contents but it probably contains between 3,5 and 4 litres: larger than a modern double-magnum and smaller than the standard jeroboam.

1937 was one of the very best Sauternes vintages of the century and the wine should still be in perfect condition.

Extremely rare, now possibly unique in this size of bottle

PROVENANCE:

This really rare bottle was bought by the current owner at Christie's London, 4th of June 1987, and never moved from his cellar since then

1 jeroboam per lot
