2 volumes, 8o (210 x 128 mm). Half-titles. Engraved folding frontispiece map (backed with linen), 6 engraved plates, all but one folding (a few tape repairs). (A few pale stains at center of vol. 1.) Contemporary calf (rebacked).
Second edition. Anburey was an officer under General Burgoyne during the Revolutionary War and was captured at Saratoga. He was later shipped to Virginia, and his account, written in the form of seventy-nine letters, give details of his experiences and the manners and customs of the people he meets. His account is much criticized and is sometimes thought to be plagiarized from Burnaby, Smyth, and others. The map shows the ground traversed by Burgoyne's army from Ticonderoga to Saratoga.
