Oblong folio (18¾ x 22¾ in). Border of printers' ornaments, arranged in tabular form. (Minor fraying to margin, three small holes catching a letter or two).
BRITAIN'S MASSIVE NAVAL POWER TALLIED ALONGSIDE THE SMALL BUT UNDAUNTED AMERICAN NAVY. Listed as American warships are some 85 vessels, a number under construction. By contrast, the Royal Navy, according to Steele's tally, comprises no fewer than 840 warships (including some 70 that under construction). The printer adds a note: "The Ships in Italic were taken from the enemy"; he also adds brief footnotes, one explaining that the Guerriere had been "captured...by the United States frigate Constitution, Captain Bainbridge, and destroyed." Other celebrated naval commanders identified include Stephen Decatur, Isaac Hull, Commodore Rogers, and David Porter. RARE: untraced in the usual sources.
