Broadside (12¼ x 7 1/8 in). Printed in one column, circular papered seal of the province at top left, accomplished in manuscript. (A few small chips and holes neatly mended). SIGNED BY EDWARD SHIPPEN III.
"Edward Shippen, Jr., as Prothonotary of the 'Supream' Court of Pennsylvania, ordered 1000 of these certificates from Franklin. This particular document served to make a citizen of Jacob (Brien?) of Philadelphia, after...living in America for seven years without being out of the country for more than two years" (Winegrad, The Intellectual World of Benjamin Franklin, p.75).
