Modelled by Guiseppe Gricci, with Socrates as an elderly man in conversation with his wife Xanthippe, Socrates loosely clad in a robe and leaning on a plinth, Xanthippe leaning on his shoulder and wearing a turban, her bodice edged in blue and her skirt edged in gilt and puce, two large books at his feet, on a mound base (restoration to both left arms and hands, slight crack to her left sleeve at back and his right index finger, slight chip at front)
