Château Léoville Barton--Vintage 1996
Saint-Julien, 2ème cru classé
In original wooden case
"The vineyards of Loville-Barton are planted to 72 Cabernet Sauvignon and 8 Cabernet Franc, with the balance planted to Merlot. A smaller portion of the vines of the original Loville estate, the fruit for Loville Barton comes from the area behind the Chateau and to the north, on the way to Pauillac. The fruit produced is richer than Loville-Poyferr and less structured than Loville-Las-Cases. A fine, warm equilibrium, the wines are always dependable as well as popular. Finally beginning to show its potential, the 1996 was underappreciated on release and now shows the potential of the site and the quality of Anthony Barton's work here, with ripe, exotic black fruit character, an undercurrent of fresh mint, and a chunky, supple texture on the palate that is somewhat soft but very seductive." CC, September 2008.
