PROPERTY OF WEST COAST CONNOISSEUR

The following eighteen lots are a preview of more wines to come from this west coast collector, with a keen eye to excellent Bordeaux. Solid cases of Bordeaux, all from the 1998 vintage and stored in custom home storage before transfer to our warehouse via temperature controlled truck, these wines are all in the sweet spot of maturity for current consumption or cellaring for enjoyment years from now.

THE 1998 VINTAGE

Producing wines of classic Bordeaux character, the 1998 vintage tested the skill of the Bordelais winemakers. With a mild winter, dry spring and an early bud break, hopes ran high throughout Bordeaux for an outstanding crop. A roller coaster of a summer capped with an extremely hot and dry August led to the early maturation and early harvest of Merlot. The right bank benefited from this early harvest as late, heavy rains led to uneven tannins in the Cabernet crop. The massive crop, the second largest of the twentieth century, was now in the hands of the winemakers.

"Classic Bordeaux nose: elegant, restrained black currant fruit, a bit of vanilla, tobacco leaf. A bit bretty, a bit thin, but you know what? We love Bordeaux. Very classic, very elegant, totally worthy." CC, September 2008
