The art of Pierre et Gilles is closely related to a sense of inclusiveness and universality. It is indeed in that universality that the work of Pierre et Gilles is more comprehensible; in what is different, in all those things which do not necessarily belong together but which they feel a close affinity with. An affirmation of that integrating spirit is the fact they were among the first French creators who recruited for their work models from very different backgrounds and races, particularly Arabs and Asians, at a time when there was little knowledge of concepts such as globalization, or racial equality.
