JEAN-BAPTISTE-JOSEPH LE TELLIER SENIOR (FRENCH, C. 1726 - AFTER 1778)
A young lady in ermine-bordered Turkish costume, full-length reclining on a divan and holding a book, in a lavish interior with coffee service and samovar
on ivory with later joins on card
oval, 3 7/8 in. (98 mm.) wide, later ornate gilt-metal frame with flower and ribbon surmount

A similar 'turquerie' miniature by this artist, signed and dated 1770, is in the Louvre, illustrated in P. Jean-Richard, Miniatures sur ivoire. Musée du Louvre. Musée d'Orsay, Paris, 1994, no. 431, p. 238, described p. 239 (erroneously as by Le Tellier the Younger).
