A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER SALVERS
MARK OF EBENEZER COKER, LONDON, 1765
Each shaped circular with gadrooned rim, on four foliage-capped scroll feet, engraved with a coat-of-arms, each marked underneath
16 in. (41 cm.) diam.
117 oz. (3,634 gr.)
The arms are those of Constable with Maxwell quartering Maxwell and Herries of Terregels, for William Constable (d.1797), previously Haggerston, and his wife Lady Winifred Maxwell (d.1801), only surviving daughter and heir of William, Lord Maxwell, son of the 5th Earl of Nithsdale and 9th Lord Herries of Terregles, whom had forfeited his titles following his conviction for treason having fought on the Jacobite side at the Battle of Preston in 1715.

William Constable had taken the name and arms of Constable in place of those of Haggerston having inherited Everingham Park and other estates from his great-uncle Sir Marmaduke Constable, 4th Bt. (1682-1746) on the latter's death. He married Lady Winifred in 1758. (2)
