MARK OF JOHN WAKELIN AND WILLIAM TAYLOR, LONDON, 1792
Each oval on spreading foot, the lower body part-fluted, with gadrooned rim and two foliage-capped handles, the detachable cover part-fluted and with foliage cast ovoid finials, the body engraved with a coat-of-arms, the cover engraved with a crest, each marked on foot and cover, further numbered and engraved with a scratchweight 'No 1 90"13' and 'No 2 93"7'

The arms are those of Grosvenor with Drax in pretence for Richard Erle-Drax-Grosvenor (d.1819), and his wife Sarah Frances Drax (d.1819), only daughter and heiress of Edward Drax of Charborough, whom he married in 1788. Richard was nephew of Richard, 1st Earl of Grosvenor (1731-1802). (2)

Commissioned from John Wakelin and William Taylor by Richard Erle-Drax-Grosvenor (1762-1819) and delivered on 23 July 1793, then by descent to his son
Richard Edward Erle-Drax (1797-1828) of Charborough Park, Dorset and then by descent to his sister
Jane Frances (d.1853), who married John Samumel Wanley Sawbridge (1800-1887) who took the arms and the additional names of Erle-Drax, and then by descent to his newphew
Wanley Ellis Sawbridge-Erle-Drax (1859-1928), of Olantigh Towers, Kent and then by descent to his son
John Charles William Sawbridge-Erle-Drax (1893-1982), of Bilting House, Kent

The tureens are described in the silversmiths' Gentleman's Ledger' as 'To 2 fine Fluted Tureens flatmouth gadroon'd chased water leaf handles & chased button 183 [oz.] 16 [dwt.] 9/6 [gr.] [£]87 6[s.] 10 [d.] To engraving two Coats & 2 crests 10[s.]'.
