Susan Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, London, 2000, vol. II, pp. 260 and 277, records Richard Lowthian as working for the Lancaster firm at the beginning of the 19th century. John Savage is very probably the same John Savage who made the six hall chairs Gillows supplied to Thomas Brockholes of Claughton Hall in Preston in 1825.
