AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER
ATTRIBUTED TO THE PAINTER OF BARI 12061, CIRCA 350 B.C.
The body of the obverse with a draped female to the left pouring a libation into a phiale held by a seated Oscan warrior, a nude Eros flying above offering a wreath, the female pouring from a kantharos in her right hand, holding a situla in her left, the Oscan warrior bearded, wearing a striped, belted tunic, boots and a crested pilos helmet, the phiale in his right hand, containing sprigs, and holding two spears in his left, leaning on a shield, his head turned back towards a youthful Oscan warrior standing beside a horse, wearing a striped belted tunic, boots and a crested Corinthian helmet, holding two spears and a shield, a draped female standing on the right, a kalathos on her head, holding an oinochoe in her left hand, a rosette chain in her right, fillets and wreaths in the field; the neck with a facing female head amidst scrolling; rosettes on the rim; the body of the reverse with a draped female with a dish of cakes and a rosette chain, walking left but looking back, an Oscan youth in the center wearing a belted tunic, a chlamys over his left arm, holding a situla and a phiale with sprigs, looking back towards a draped female holding a wreath and a branch, a rosette in the field; the neck with ivy and berries; wave on the rim; the panels on the body each framed by a double row of dots, a band of meander with cross-squares enclosing circles below the scenes; tongues on the shoulders; palmettes on the sides of the handle-plates, palmettes on their upper surfaces, elaborate scrolling on the upper surface of the rim; details in added white and yellow
