Château Latour--Vintage 2000
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
VINTAGE NOTE: Above average temperatures in March, resulting in early budbreak...the warmth continued in April and May-a depressingly cloudy and humid June and July. What saved the day was almost unbroken sunshine without rain from August through September, resulting in fine ripening conditions favouring the Merlot and for those who waited and timed it right, Cabernet Sauvignon. Unquestionably a very good year, uniform in quality with some really outstanding wines.

"Some said that Latour could never top its modern classic, the 1990, but director Frédéric Engerer and his team at this famous first-growth have equalled it with the 2000. It's a young wine that electrifies every taste bud in your mouth. Compact aromas of crushed currants and minerals, with roses and lilacs, it is full-bodied, with masses of silky, refined tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes." 100 points, James Suckling, January 2003

"Firm, ripe, solid berry fruit on the nose, this is a wine with less flesh but more substance. On the palate it is firm and long with great extract and length. Elegant balance between the silky masculine texture and the round and enchanting fruit character. Great potential for age. Spectacular." Charles Curtis M. W., November 2004

"Lovely colour, deep, velvety; delicious nose, sweet, spicy, forthcoming, almost caramelly richness packed with fruit; lovely flavor and balance, tannic. Great future."Michael Broadbent M. W., May 2006
"The 2000 Latour is "packed and stacked." The extremely rich, black/purple color to the rim is followed by a wine with some subtle smoke, loads of minerals, a hint of vanilla, and plenty of crème de cassis as well as roasted meat and a slight scorched earth character. Broad, savory, and rich, the wine seems to be about 5 years away from full maturity and should drink well for at least 40-50 more years." 98 points, Robert Parker, June 2010
