Château Latour--Vintage 1995
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Vintage note: After several years of mediocre vintages between 1991 - 1994, Bordeaux experienced textbook conditions in 1995. The weather was very sunny throughout flowering and the growing season, and temperatures were high but not excessive, giving wines that showed great phenolic development, high sugar levels and soft acidity. Enough rain fell in August and September to refresh the vines without dilution, and the harvest began tranquilly in mid-September, continuing through the end of the month. The best of the wines are ripe but not scorched, pleasantly balanced, and well-structured.

"A beauty, the opaque dense purple-colored 1995 exhibits jammy cassis, vanillin, and minerals in its fragrant but still youthful aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, with exceptional purity, superb concentration, and a long, intense, ripe, 40-second finish, this is a magnificent example of Latour. As the wine sat in the glass, scents of roasted espresso and toasty new oak emerged." 96 points, Robert Parker, June 2000

"In November 1997, with more flesh and fruit than the Lafite. Very good. Recently, a fine wine. Long life predicted." Michael Broadbent M. W., March 2001

"The 1995 Latour at a recent tasting was almost closed on the nose, but still revealed a mysterious, very dark fruit character and a hint of cedary maturity. The texture is dense and firmly tannic. A muscular, masculine wine that will open up with time." Charles Curtis M. W., August 2010
