Château Latour--Vintage 1988
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Vintage note: The first of a trio of very good vintages. I now think that the 1988 are just about coming into their own as serious long-term clarets. In the end, however, time and tannin will probably be jostling for supremacy.
"Has remarkable, rich core of ruby-red colour; nose of crushed raspberries and blackcurrants, gaining spice and perfume after 1 hour in the glass. Fruitiness is intense, but tight and linear. Freshness and tannins are present, but it needs to melt and put on flesh." Anthony Hanson M. W., February 2003
"A pronounced nose of ripe blackberries and plums along with a savory, smoky note. On the palate it shows grip and substance, with full body, lots of extract and great length." Charles Curtis M. W., September 2008
