The attribution to Mennecy or possibly Sceaux is based on a comparison of paste, palette and style of decoration between the present bough-pot and figures on the art market within the past twelve years. See Property from the Estate of Mrs. Charles W. Englehard, Christie's, New York, 18 March 2005, lot 274 for a Mennecy Commedia dell'Arte figure of Pierrot and lot 276 for a pair of Mennecy pommade-pots and covers, each modeled as a bunch of radishes. Also see Christie's, London, 3 June 1996, lot 327 for a pair of Mennecy figures of a Turk and Turkana and 12 December 2002, lot 31 for that of a seated Chinaman previously ascribed to Mennecy and now thought to have more likely originated at Sceaux.
