These life-like portraits of Norman Cook capture the DJ in a variety of poses. Cook commissioned Julie-Anne Gilburt to paint them for use in publicity shots, she says Norman wanted a portrait with a twist rather than the standard 'photo'.... As seen in the artist's sketch book which shows numerous photographs of Norman Cook, the added twist being portions of Julie-Anne's artwork attached to his face, cut outs replacing his eyes, Cook elaborates in his letter accompanying this lot I thought it could be an interesting idea to see just how life like they were by replacing various parts of my real head with painted ones....
