Lot Essay

The tracks included seem to be alternative renditions of songs that appear on Elton's second or third albums, the titles being; Take Me to the Pilot - on his second album, eponymously titled Elton John - also on B-side to the single release of Your Song; Border Song - on his second album, eponymously titled Elton John , however this rendition lacks the choir part; Rock n Roll Madonna - released as a single in 1970, but never chartered; Ballad of A Well Know Gun and Son of your Father - both on the 1970 album Tumbleweed Connection.
Taking this information into account it is difficult to know the purpose of the acetate, in terms of why tracks from two different albums plus an obscure single are grouped together. Over time the songs have been placed on Elton John re-issues or compilation releases, so perhaps the alternative mixes were put together in the decision making process for one of these releases.
