This lot is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the vendor explaining that Roger Daltrey gifted the Gold Disc to his Uncle, who was the vendor's Step-Grandfather. Please note that since this lot was catalogued, it has come to our attention that the award is presented to MCA Records and that the disc has an MCA Records label, whereas the album was originally released on Decca.

Lot Essay

'Tommy', released in the US on the 17th May 1969, was the first album of the Who's to officially go gold and was certified by the RIAA on the 18th August 1969. Arguably this was the album that cemented the band's fan base in the USA.
