The image is adapted from Beardsley's design for the cover of the last issue of The Savoy. Beardsley produced the lithograph by adding colour and background lines. The magazine's publisher, Leonard Smithers, was described by Oscar Wilde as 'the most learned erotomaniac in Europe'. Lasner 103b.
