A LARGE LACQUER 'NINE DRAGON' BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
Of high domed form raised on a short straight foot, deeply carved to the outside of the box and cover with nine powerful writhing dragons chasing 'flaming pearls' amongst foaming waves, above a keyfret band encircling the foot, the interiors and base lacquered black, the lacquer of a dark reddish-brown tone
11 3/8 in. (28.8 cm.) diam.

Compare the present box and cover with another example of the same size sold at Christie's Paris, 23 November 2004, lot 118. Another example from the Muwentang Collection was illustarted by S.
