The handle is naturalistically carved as a grape vine, the thicker central stem issuing delicate vines, clusters of grapes and large vine leaves finely incised with veins and detailed with worm-eaten holes

Compare with a closely related boxwood fan handle from the Chengxuntang Foundation carved as a prunus branch, bearing the mark of Zhou Yi, included in the Min Chiu Society Thirtieth Anniversary Exhibition, Selected Treasures of Chinese Art, Hong Kong, 1990, no. 256.
