Lot Essay

Copper-red glazed stembowls appeared early in the Yongle and Xuande periods, of which there are very few extant examples. A similar Yongzheng-marked stembowl imitating the Xuande prototype is in the collection of the Shanghai Museum, illustrated by Lu Minghua, Imperial Porcelain of the Ming Dynasty, Studies of the Shanghai Museum Collection, Shanghai, 2007, p. 296, pl. 5-31.

Compare also a similar stembowl sold at Christie's New York, 18 September 2003, lot 335.
