Lot Essay

US$15,000-20,000
With presentation case, outer packaging, certificate and product literature.

Inspired by Patek Philippe's charismatic Calatrava model from the 1930s, an effigy of timeless elegance, the present reference 5196 features a platinum case and a highly attractive two-tone silvered dial. Reminiscent of the dials from the period, it combines a satin-finish centre combined with applied white gold Breguet numerals.

Further to our research, the present lot is one of only 8 examples of reference 5196 in platinum to reappear on the market and has never been offered for auction previously.

Reference 5196 was launched in 2004 and exists in all three gold colours, including platinum. Gold versions are usually fitted with baton numerals dials but all platinum models known were fitted with the sought-after Breguet numerals such as the present lot.
