Lot Essay
Edward Stanton (circa 1642 -- post 1715) was apprenticed in December 1655 to Francis Bowen and later Nathaniel Allen. He was Free of the Clockmakers' Company in January 1662/63 and soon after established his own business, taking on fourteen apprentices between 1664 and 1705. He was made Assistant to the Clockmakers' Company in 1682, Warden in 1693 and its Master in 1697. In 1699 he oversaw John Ebsworth's will. Stanton regularly attended the Clockmakers' Company until 1715.
