Mahakaruna or the Great Compassionate is seated in an elegant though royal posture on the lotus base with his right leg entwined by the meditation band. His right hand is bent at the wrist while the other placed behind the left leg and grasping the lotus stem. A minute figure of his spiritual father Amitabha is present in his hair dress and denotes him as the Lord of Compassion. This presentation is rather rare to come across. The fine modelling of this bronze with its slender body, lavishly ornamented, is characteristic for the high level of casting during the Pala period.
