Lot Essay

A strong box of similar shape but with dyed tortoiseshell veneer below the iron work is attributed to Russia by Marian Campbell in 'Decorative Ironwork, V & A Publications 1997. fig.184. Caskets of this form occasionaly incorporated mica panels below the ironwork
