2o (348 x 211 mm). Engraved title by John Payne, over 2700 woodcut illustrations in text, ornaments and initials. (Some light mostly marginal staining, light browning.) Later calf (some rubbing and light wear).
Third edition. This revised and enlarged edition, the second by Thomas Johnson, corrected many of Gerard's errors, added 800 new species and 700 woodcuts. It may be regarded as the most complete edition. Brunet II: 1548; Hunt 230; Nissen BBI 698; STC 11752.
