2o (369 x 235 mm). 4 page publisher's catalogue at end. 127 engraved plates (numbered 1-9, 9*, 10-39, 40*, 40-78, 78*, 79-123, 124/125), plate number 124/125 double-page. (Some spotting and staining, a few short marginal tears or repairs.) Modern half calf. Provenance: Atlanta Architectural Sketch Club (ink stamp on title, index leaf and 15 plates).
Third edition, "improved." The designs were originally issued by George Hepplewhite's widow Alice in 1788, two years after his death in 1786. The present edition "was issued... containing new or altered plates, in which many curvilinear or shield-back chairs and sofas of 1788 are replaced by neat rectilinear forms in the French style" (DNB).
