3 volumes, 2o (381 x 270 mm). Engraved title, 3 engraved maps hand-colored in outline, 143 engraved plates including 6 sepia and 12 hand-colored (some light offsetting and spotting). Contemporary red quarter calf, spine gilt, edges gilt (some light rubbing, circular sticker on foot of spine, corners bumped).

Langles left his military career in order to study Eastern cultures. This is the most important of his publications, despite being unfinished. In these volumes, he studies the archaeological and aesthetic aspects of Hindu monuments comparing them to other monuments, including those in Egypt and Morocco. Brunet III, 819-820. (3)
