This "eye" poster, as the U.S. one-sheet, style D for 2001: A Space Odyssey is most often referred to, is from the original print run and was among the very first posters to come off the press and be hand delivered to M.G.M.'s headquarters in New York. This poster design was conceived for the 1969, 70 mm re-launch of 2001: A Space Odyssey in New York while the film was still playing around America in a standard 35 mm format. This poster was primarily used for wild-posting (i.e. posting on building sites etc.). It was therefore printed in a smaller quantity than the "star child" poster - the campaign's principal image - which was retained for subsequent releases for the next decade. Some of the "eye" posters were displayed at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York, but as a secondary image, and never for newspaper ads or other promotional purposes. It is the rarest of all the U.S. one sheets for 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Also included in this lot are two rare THE ULTIMATE TRIP badges which were given to the audience at the Ziegfeld Theatre on the première night of 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968.
