THE MOVEMENT BY LOUIS FRANCOIS HERBAULT PARIS, THE CASE STAMPED ANTOINE FOULLET, CIRCA 1750
The waisted case and bracket decorated overall with ormolu C-scrolls and foliate mounts, the top surmounted by a double foliate finial, the foliate cast gilt-bronze dial inset with enamel hour chapters and minute markers surrounding the enamel centre signed Herbault A Paris, blued steel hands. The square eight-day two train movement with four back-pinned pillars, verge escapement and countwheel strike on bell above, the backplate signed Herbault A Paris 1750, the inside of the door and case with corne verte veneer and brass inlays, the case and bracket both stamped ANT. FOULLET JME, old inventory number to the reverse X.326.; pendulum and winding key

Louis-Francois Herbault, Paris, became maître in 1743, Juré 1761-89
Antoine Foullet (?-1775), maître in 1749 and working from the Rue du Faubourg St-Antoine, he was specialized in making clock-cases, like Francois Duhamel and Balthazard Lieutaud.
