A DUTCH SILVER AND CARVED MOTHER-OF-PEARL TOBACCO BOX
Mark probably that of Adrianus Kuylenburg, Schoonhoven, 1793, also struck with later duty mark (a dolphin)
The lid depicting a money changer in his chambers, and inscribed op-schrift Die gedts genoch heft hij de bandt,/Beracht hij niet ? dat Under Bemschandt, marked on the rim
11.4 cm. wide
Together with a Dutch silver, tortoiseshell and later simulated ivory tobacco box, mark of Pieter de Koo, Amsterdam, 1755, the tortoiseshell lid later applied with a carved pierced simulated ivory relief depicting Hercules and Deianeira; marked to the inside of the rim (2)
