Lot Essay

Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845) was a successful London dealer of furniture, porcelain, glass and bronzes. He sold antique pieces (mostly French 18th century) as well as modern examples inspired by the old styles. This piece may have been made in the workshop of Baldock's collaborator Robert Blake who favoured this sort of floral marquetry.
