The painted striations on the habit simulate the texture of cloth. Similar painting was a speciality of Alonso Cano and Pedro de Mena. For example see Saint Francis in Marjorie Trusted Spanish Sculpture, V & A 1996, No. 24. pp. 64-65 and Saints Peter and Diego by Alonso Cano and Pedro de Mena in the Museo de Bellas Artes de Granada both illustrated Alonso Cano 1601-1667, exhibition catalogue, Cordoba 2000
