Lot Essay

The reeded and lotus leaf carved column closely relates to the base of a table at Holkham Hall, Norfolk, by Johnstone, Jupe and Co. of New Bond Street (fl. 1835-1842). The Holkham table is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, London, 1996, p. 286.
