Lot Essay

These two vases are modelled on a pair of marble vases by Girardon now in the Louvre. In 1683 they were placed in the North parterre of the Versailles Park, later in the parks of the Trianon and Saint-Cloud. In 1872 they were transferred to the Louvre.
