This is a collection that has the power to appeal to an extraordinary range of collectors, irrespective of tastes or budget. The key quality here is provenance - the most important consideration for any serious collector or trader. When turning our attention to the next 366 lots, we can confidently assure you that the provenance is nothing short of exemplary, all wines being bought 'en primeur' and then stored in the deep cellars of a highly reputable merchant until release to our care. The focus of the collector's passion was the wines of Bordeaux. What is clear from looking carefully at the wines featured is that he was a true connoisseur. He didn't just buy first growths or iconic 'cult' wines with investment strategies in mind, he carefully assembled what one might call a 'Classic Claret' cellar. Be unmistaken, the first growths are all very well represented, as are the best wines of the Right Bank, but what we also have here is a huge wealth of mid-priced wines that have, over centuries, earned their place in the hearts and cellars of the world's most discerning collectors and drinkers. The collector was also very sensitive to the importance of buying wines from the very best vintages of the last two decades. Vintages like 1989 and 1990 show prominently, as do 1996 and 2000 and more recently a swathe of excellent wines from the great 2005 vintage. Whilst fine red Bordeaux is the emphasis of this collection, it is by no means the collector's only interest. Alongside this connoisseur's cellar of claret are vinous gems that hail from all the finest regions of Europe. On the heels of the Claret collection is a hand-picked selection of Sauternes and Barsac from great recent vintages including a cache of top wines from the stellar 2001 vintage. Young port features in quantity, giving buyers the opportunity to start assembling, or add to, a port cellar that will provide excellent drinking for many decades to come. Lovers of red Burgundy should be delighted to see a hoard of wines from some of the most talented winemakers in the Côte de Nuits. Famous names such as: Rousseau, Roumier, Mugnier and Dujac sit next to those of lesser-known but equally interesting winemakers from a diverse range of appellations. There is also a small parcel of fine white Burgundy from a select group of iconic producers that include: Domaine Leflaive, Comtes Lafon, Michel Niellon and Arnaud Ente. We are proud and delighted to offer such an extensive range of excellent wines with superb provenance - this is a treat for any wine lover. Please enjoy perusing these pages of our catalogue - we're sure everyone will find something that is to their tastes.
