Edo period (19th century), with worn signature Ritsuo and seal Kan
Decorated in tsuikoku (carved black lacquer) with red and gold highlights simulating a chipped and crackled ink cake, each side with a sunken panel depicting a tiger in a bamboo forest and a writhing dragon; accompanied by a kagamibuta netsuke with ivory bowl carved as a wicker basket, fitted with a silver plate decorated in shakudo and gold inlay with a tiger in a bamboo forest, the bamboo stalks bowing with heavy snow
